National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah has once again vowed to fight for the reinstatement of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to reporters on September 9, 2024,

in the Baramulla district, Abdullah emphasized that while the process may take time, the restoration of Article 370 remains the “voice of the people” of Jammu and Kashmir.

Abdullah responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks, in which Shah dismissed the possibility of restoring the Article, saying NC and PDP were “dreaming” of such an outcome.

In contrast, Abdullah expressed confidence that, similar to how it took time for the BJP to revoke Article 370, the NC would eventually succeed in reversing the decision.

Farooq Abdullah also criticized the BJP’s assertion that terrorism in the region was due to Article 370. He pointed out that despite the abrogation of the Article in 2019, terrorism has persisted in the region.

Abdullah further accused the central government of mishandling the situation, referencing the 1999 Kandahar hijacking and the release of militants like Masood Azhar, which he argued had long-term negative impacts on security.

In the lead-up to upcoming elections, Abdullah confirmed that the NC would continue its alliance with Congress, despite internal criticisms. He maintained that this partnership would be crucial in their collective efforts to challenge the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir(Devdiscourse)(Daily Excelsior)(Hindustan Times).
